India vs New Zealand Champions Trophy 12th Match Highlights
India defeated New Zealand by 44 runs in the Champions Trophy match, securing a place in the semifinals against Australia. New Zealand, on the other hand, will face South Africa.
India’s spinners dominated the match, restricting New Zealand to 205 runs while chasing a target of 249. Varun Chakaravarthy was the star performer, taking five wickets in his first ODI five-wicket haul.
India’s spin-heavy strategy worked well on the slow Dubai pitch. Along with Varun, other spinners like Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja played crucial roles, collectively taking nine wickets.
The New Zealand batters struggled to handle the spin attack, with four of them getting out LBW. Kane Williamson fought hard for New Zealand, scoring 81 runs off 120 balls.
He survived three dropped catches but was eventually stumped while trying to accelerate the scoring. Other key players like Will Young, Daryl Mitchell, and Tom Latham failed to provide support, leading to New Zealand’s collapse.
Earlier in the match, India batted first and scored 249 runs. The start was difficult as Matt Henry bowled brilliantly, taking five wickets for 42 runs.
He dismissed Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma early, leaving India struggling at 30 for 3. However, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel steadied the innings with a 98-run partnership.
Iyer played an excellent knock of 79 runs, while Axar contributed 42. Later, Hardik Pandya added 45 valuable runs to push India to a competitive total.
Despite Henry’s efforts with the ball, India’s bowlers outperformed New Zealand. Varun Chakaravarthy’s spin magic, backed by disciplined bowling from the other spinners, sealed the victory.
India’s well-thought-out strategy and strong bowling performance ensured their spot in the semifinals, where they will face Australia in a high-stakes match.
