India vs New Zealand Champions Trophy 12th Match Analysis

India beat New Zealand by 44 runs and will face Australia in the semis. New Zealand will face South Africa.

India’s spinners did the job, restricting New Zealand to 205 while chasing 249. Varun Chakaravarthy was the star, his first ODI five-wicket haul.

The slow Dubai pitch played to India’s spin-heavy strategy. Along with Varun, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja took nine wickets between them.

New Zealand batsmen found it tough to handle the spin, four of them got out LBW. Kane Williamson fought hard for New Zealand, scored 81 off 120.

He witnessed three dropped catches but was still stumped in an attempt to accelerate scoring. The rest of the key batsmen including Will Young, Daryl Mitchell, and Tom Latham failed to give any support and New Zealand crumbled.

India had batted first and had scored 249 runs. It was not easy to begin with because Matt Henry bowled well and took five wickets for 42 runs.

He sent Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma packing early, having India reeling at 30 for 3. Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel steadied the ship with a 98-run stand.

Shreyas Iyer held it together with a 79 — a proper anchor innings — while Axar Patel chipped in with a 42 to keep the runs coming. And just when India needed that late surge, Hardik Pandya came in and smashed a 45 to get the total to a competitive one.

Now, even though Matt Henry did some damage early on, it was India’s bowlers who really won the game. Varun Chakaravarthy turned the game on its head with a brilliant five-for and the rest of the spinners backed him up well. They kept it tight, stuck to the plan and didn’t let New Zealand breathe.

In the end, it was a perfect strategy from India, using the conditions well and executing it smartly. Their bowlers did the job, simple as that and now they’re into the semifinals. And yep… next up is Australia. That’s gonna be big.
