Pakistan vs New Zealand Champions Trophy 1st Match Highlights

New Zealand defeated Pakistan in the opening match of the Champions Trophy. The match was held at the National Stadium, which was packed with Pakistan supporters.

However, the crowd had little to cheer about as Tom Latham and Will Young led New Zealand to a strong total of 320 runs.

Latham scored an unbeaten 118 runs, while Young made 107. Their partnership of 118 runs helped New Zealand recover after an early struggle.

The pitch offered inconsistent bounce, making batting difficult at the start. Pakistan’s bowlers, including Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf, took quick wickets, reducing New Zealand to 73 for 3.

However, Latham and Young played confidently, rotating the strike well and hitting boundaries when needed. Glenn Phillips also contributed with a quick 61 off 39 balls, helping New Zealand score 113 runs in the last 10 overs.

Pakistan had a tough start while chasing 320. Fakhar Zaman got injured early and could not open the batting. Pakistan’s top order collapsed, with the team managing only 22 runs in the first 10 overs.

Saud Shakeel and captain Mohammad Rizwan were dismissed cheaply. Babar Azam tried to stabilize the innings with a slow 64 runs, but his cautious approach increased the pressure on other batters.

Zaman, despite his injury, came to bat at No.4 but struggled to run between the wickets. Pakistan’s batting lacked aggression, playing too many dot balls.

Khushdil Shah fought hard with a 69-run knock, and Salman Ali Agha made 42 runs, but their efforts were not enough.

New Zealand’s bowlers, especially Will O’Rourke and Mitchell Santner, took key wickets, preventing Pakistan from making a comeback. Pakistan was bowled out for 260 in 47.2 overs, losing the match by 60 runs.

New Zealand’s dominant performance, led by Latham and Young, secured them a strong start in the tournament.
