Sri Lanka vs Australia 2nd ODI Highlights

Sri Lanka delivered a dominant performance to defeat Australia in the second ODI in Colombo, winning by 174 runs and securing a 2-0 series victory.

Australia’s preparations for the Champions Trophy were badly shaken as their batting fell apart, getting all out for just 107 runs while chasing a target of 282.

Sri Lanka’s captain, Charith Asalanka, and wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Mendis led their team to victory with outstanding contributions.

Kusal Mendis scored a brilliant century, supported by Nishan Madushka, who added 51 runs. After a slow start, both batters began scoring steadily, ensuring the team did not lose early wickets.

Kusal reached his half-century with back-to-back boundaries and later brought up his century in the 44th over.

Madushka fell after his fifty, but Asalanka played confidently, remaining unbeaten on 78. Late hitting by Janith Liyanage helped Sri Lanka post a strong total of 281/4 in 50 overs.

Australia’s run chase began on a positive note with Travis Head hitting three boundaries in the first over. However, Sri Lanka’s bowler Asitha Fernando quickly dismantled Australia’s top order, taking three crucial wickets inside seven overs.

He trapped Matthew Short lbw, dismissed Jake Fraser-McGurk with a clever knuckleball, and got Head caught in the deep.

Steve Smith tried to fight back with a partnership alongside Josh Inglis, but Sri Lanka’s spinners tightened their grip on the match.

Dunith Wellalage dismissed Inglis with an arm ball, and from that point, Australia collapsed. Wellalage picked up four wickets while Wanindu Hasaranga and Fernando each grabbed three.

Australia crumbled from 79/3 to 83/7 in a shocking collapse, eventually getting bowled out for just 107 runs in 24.2 overs.

Sri Lanka’s bowling attack completely outclassed the Australian lineup. Wellalage ended with impressive figures of 4/35, while Hasaranga and Fernando shared six wickets equally, leaving Australia with no chance of recovery.

With this emphatic victory, Sri Lanka showcased their strength in all departments, especially in batting and spin bowling.

The win marked a series triumph and a major confidence boost for Sri Lanka, while Australia was left to rethink their approach as they prepare for the Champions Trophy.
